Solution-based mixed-methods research
Maps, Rock climbing

I am a planetary health scholar with a background in geography, environmental engineering, and anthropology . I use mixed methods at multiple scales to assess and identify solutions to challenges that affect human well-being and the ecosystems that support life on Earth.
My approach is interdisciplinary, collaborative, and focused on solutions and communities’ aspirations beyond solely evaluating damage. My work has taken me to meaningful collaborations in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, South Africa, Ecuador, Canada, and the United States.
Learning, sharing, and articulating knowledge across scales and disciplines
My research applies planetary health lenses and systems thinking to conceptualizing multi-methods empirical studies at global, national, and local scales, in order to examine the impacts of globalized contamination on health equity and ecosystem integrity. My research program follows four main streams:
Community engagement, activism, and science communication and translation
I am committed to standing in solidarity with communities to support the development of effective, sustainable, evidence-informed, and culturally appropriate management solutions to environmental and well-being challenges.
Learning, teaching, and sharing
My teaching philosophy has been shaped by more than 15 years of experience teaching in different countries, with students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.
My strong commitment to teaching, learning, and promoting student engagement is based on a deep appreciation on how these actions positively shape my scholarship and the academic community.
